RECRUIT THE RIGHT EMPLOYEE with Graphology & Psychology Methods

If you are a Human Resource practitioner or mere employer who needs to constantly recruit new employees for your organisation, did you realise that one of the most challenges in your line of work is recruiting new employees. At times, employees will either tender resignation in less than a year, or the worst case scenario is they abscond.

You must be wondering why this happens even though you had recruited that candidate with the best of everything from qualification to experience and qualification to experiences again.

If you are practising interviews, meeting with the candidates more than once, that is one of the good practices. Even though it might not confirm that you will be able to retain the candidate for the position, it is in fact a good practice for you to understand them more. Naturally, on second interviews, candidate will unconsciously open up themselves which could be completely closed during the first interview. Matter of fact, you could not even know them from the first interview. You might realised that every questions you asked would be replied perfectly a “Yes” or “No, definitely I will not do that”. We could not blame the candidates for that aspects as naturally everyone of us would like to show our best sides so that we can be that chosen candidate.

However, since we are looking at the perspective of the employer, how can we reduce the impact of choosing the wrong candidate. What shall we do?

Based on my observations and the past years practicing HR and providing graphology and motivational consultancy, the first factor you actually have to ask yourselves is, what is your objective of the recruitment exercise. Sometimes you might not even have that in mind. Recruitment is not just taking in people to fill the empty position. There should have a long term plan to that. Are you recruiting candidate who can fill the position for only 1-2 years or you would like to develop this person so that he/she will be a positive significance to the company and expand with your business. Ask yourselves or your employers this main question. Once you know your objective, then you can start listing the criteria of the candidate. This is when you will notice that the list in fact are more driven towards the type of personalities compared to qualification or experiences.

Ensure that the personality of the person not only list what he/she is required to possess to act on the position. This person should have the initiative, driven towards their aims and goals to be successful not just a passive person, honesty, confidence in communication and mainly their interest on the job.

Although these personalities can be observed from their handwriting such as in letters “o”, “t”, spaces between lines and words, legibility, signatures and many others, I would suggest that you should also look into asking your candidates questions that challenge their thoughts and scenario situations. Normally, I will asked with reference to the personalities identified through their handwriting. From here, observe the way they response it not just what is the contents of their responses. Observe their eye movements, voice tones, hands movements and body language. From all these aspects, you could sense their honesty, confidence, and gauge on their character and interest.

Apart from that, do also observe whether that person is too persistent with what they want. From my experience, if the candidates kept calling your company after the interview, 4 out of 5 normally will end up not joining you when you decided to recruit them. They seems interested but probably they might not even know what they want.

Therefore, if you are still unsure whether the individual is suitable for the position, take your time and call them for subsequent interviews to assure your decision and do perform reference checks. Combinations of various methods will enhance positive results for your recruitment exercise.

Cite a research conducted by a psychologist Herb Greenburg, President of Marketing Research and Survey Corporation regarding the factor that constitutes a job success of an employee. He had reviewed over 350,000 employees from more than 7,000 companies, the study results reflected that personality is actually the most important factor in a job success not education, not experience, not age, gender or race.
Therefore, if that candidate or your present employee has that exceptional positive personality, experience, good education, and attitude he/she is a bonus to your organisation. They will be a vital asset to you in the short and long term. So, remember to cherish your employees’ efforts and the real good ones will definitely appreciate you and your organisation.

Handwriting Pressure and Your Determination

The pressure in your handwriting is not just a measure of whether someone can decipher what you write and whether it is clear enough. In graphology, pressure of a writing helps to identify the individual’s degree of determination, energy level to complete tasks, consistency in decision making and your emotion and behaviour.

If you study more in depth the effort and energy you apply in your handwriting, you could see whether the pressure and ink is constant throughout the writing. If it starts with darker ink and then tends to fade, it defines your determination that tend to decrease with time. However, if the writing is back to how you started earlier towards the end of the word/sentence, it shows how you could make yourself get back to your feet and finish what you started. Though there are challenges or external factors that could disrupt your way to perform the tasks/goals, you will make sure that you will overcome it.

So, if you are writing right now, try to observe the way you write and the effort you put in to ensure the words are not fading. And ask yourself whether the science of the definition of the above is accurate.

Full handwriting analysis is more accurate than just briefly analysing your handwriting on your own without a graphologist’s interpretation.

Graphotherapy – Is it Real?

Have you ever thought that is unbelievably weird that we could actually change or improve our personality by changing our handwriting? Yes, I thought that way too years back. That was around eight years ago when I learnt about it.

How Graphotherapy works?

Simply, Graphotherapy is in fact a therapy whereby you could change specific handwriting strokes. Changing it effectively involves point of writing that will ‘ignite’ your brain through your veins. This process should work in chorus with words of motivation or affirmative phrases. To whom shall it be expressed? That is to you. The Real You within You.

This is in fact one of the interesting approaches to improve in your personality. In order to be overwhelmed by the results, you need patience. You need to constantly practice and consciously encourage yourself to achieve the optimum results. Remember that we had lived with ourselves for years therefore expecting an immediate overnight results is absolutely a “not at all can be change in a week”.

There are a number of simple traits in our handwriting that we could change. This includes your signature which I had highlighted in my recent write-up ‘Signature and You’. I mentioned on the type of signatures one should avoid, and presenting those which are healthy and bold. A point that you need to remember is that you should not change your handwriting without consulting any graphologists. Please ensure that you are advised on your personality before any graphotherapy suggestions are shared with you.

Handwriting Samples

Let me show you examples on interesting traits that could be changed through graphotheraphy.

Downward Baseline – Pessimism/Depression/Illness

Observe the following handwriting sample which is similar to an author, E.Hemingway (1889-1961). (I decided not to publish the actual handwriting due to copyright issues,unless for my workshops.) He was the author for the popular novel ‘A farewell to Arm’, while ‘The Old Man and The Sea’ had won Pulitzer Prize in 1953. His actual handwriting shows enthusiasm and self-confidence trait on his t-bar and the organized presentation of his handwriting.

On the other hand, you will notice the downward baseline as above on his actual handwriting.  From his biography, it was mentioned that he had experienced depression, ill-health and a deteriorating life since a plane crash accident at the later stage of his life. Experiencing the downfalls, it was reported that he had committed suicide.

An extreme downward baseline like his signifies depression.

On the other hand, a moderate downward baseline tells you about one’s negative outlook towards life and being pessimistic about it.

Moderate Upward Baseline – Positive Outlook, Optimism

Now, compare Hemingway’s handwriting with the following example.

This is an admirable example of healthy and positive with confidence handwriting. (I could not show the actual handwriting of the example as I have not received the confirmation from the individual to publish it as sample). However, the handwriting is similar to the following. Written in moderate upward baseline).

As cited in an interview, she had experienced several challenges in her career initially. She constantly motivate herself to be positive in her thinking and outlook on her career.

Excerpt from the interview:
She says, an individual has to do something which he has passion on. Try out different things if still unsure about it until he finds the right one for him.

With her optimism and love on what she likes, she is now a director for the one of the sections in the magazine.

Check Your Handwriting

Now it is time to check whether you have been writing upwards or downwards. Firstly before you change your downward baseline to a moderate upward or a moderate straight (not rigid); ask yourself whether what was highlighted is somewhat similar to any experiences you had encountered in your life. If it is, you can still do something about it.

On the other hand, in any case you have this in your mind now:
Why should I change my handwriting? Shouldn’t it be natural and unique from others?  That was a highlight from one of the participants in my workshop. This is one of the reasons normally I will not unnecessarily suggest graphotherapy for all my clients/participants. As analysis is supposed to be done holistically, not just by simply identifying one to two traits, we do not unnecessarily suggest Grahotherapy. That is why normally I do not highlight my participants/clients to improve or change their handwriting pressure, downstrokes, i-dots etc. Common ones are related to the way an individual thinks such as baseline, t-bar, signatures and a few others.

Now, try it.

Conclusion

Just remember that, Graphotherapy practice will be significant in your personality development provided that you have positive mindset about it. You have to also work hand in hand by saying to yourself positive encouraging words to psycho your mind. Use powerful positive words such as; ‘Any problems which I encounter in my life are something that I would be able to solve and overcome it as long as I am optimistic about it’ etc.

Remember that definitely it will work well complementary with other skills development, self-effectiveness skills, your experiences and knowledge. Remember that is why our life is called ‘life’.  If you only rely on one method, and ignore other ways to improve and develop your personal self, it is like you are expecting only to meet one person in your life and depend on only him/her to make you happy.
